"Ladies, thank you for making me feel at home. Loc maintenance when traveling is not always easy. I don’t believe in letting just any body groom my locks. The welcoming feel of the salon prompted me to schedule an appointment and I am glad I did. Your positive energy is inspiring. Until next time."

A Natural Thank You To Natural Resources
"The thought of locking my hair was first brought to my attention by my wife. She asked me why don’t you lock your hair since you have had so many different looks? I never took the time to think of the process to be endured, I just said I’ll do it. I had to realize very quickly that you must have a lot of patience to fully understand the process and what it entailed. I started in March ’03 and thought I was well on my way to something exciting. Due to my particular hair texture, I did not realize that this was going to be more complicated than I thought. I have had several stylists explain the locking process to me and they all have similarities and differences with their consultations. I began the process three times and it was a nightmare. I was about to lose faith in the process until I found one particular location called Natural Resources. The knowledge and understanding of hair texture and how to work with it left me totally impressed with the staff. In May ’03, I was on my way again. Still, not totally convinced after three months of maintenance, I was just watching my hair continuing to grow. After being rebellious and moving around again to find a quick solution, I realized that there was none. My stylist (Monique) has been very good at keeping me informed of phases and stages of my locks. If Monique says it…it is so. She and co-worker Tamika have definitely made my process one to be enjoyed. Through many conversations, and the fact that their personalities have been great, they are to be commended. Though I am free to do what I want, when I want, I am another brother locked up! To the ladies of Natural Resources, I say thank you... Keeping it natural is keeping it real."

It gives me great pleasure to know that there are young members of our society who possess a sincere, deep rooted love for man kind: a young woman who conveys, not only with words but actions, love and respect for others. I am personally amazed at this young woman’s tremendous wisdom. From our first meeting continuing until the present, she has given me a reason to stop and think because of her soft spoken, hard hitting words of insight about what needs to be done to change one’s views and misconceptions about African Americans adorned with natural hair. I have personally sat under her tutelage and learned about the advantages, rewards and freedom of wearing my hair in its natural state and to love and appreciate what God has blessed me with. In other words I’ve developed a new self love like I've never known before. One might say it is a "calling" on her life, I believe that crossing each other's paths in life was predestined.

I had already started treating my body to better nutritional health. By chance, I was introduced to Natural Resources as an alternative to healthier hair care. I was hesitant to change but I did. No more hair breakage, hot tools and time spent on deciding what to do with my hair. As a result my hair is growing and is naturally strong. Natural Resources helped me select a style that I am comfortable with no matter where I go and the complements keep coming almost a year later. When I'm ready Natural Resources will help me select a style that will fit my lifestyle. I am can truly say I am healthier from head to toe.

I have been a customer of Natural Resources for almost 2 years. I decided to go natural because my hair was shedding, and due to my schedule I was unable keep up with the schedule for hair maintenance with a perm. Relaxing my hair was very painful due to chemical burns and I suffer with very dry scalp, so I really need a change. Many don’t believe this is my hair, but it is “ALL NATURAL” I enjoy the freedom of not worrying about curls falling or the dreaded humidity messing up a hair due. Tamika is a wonderful and creative stylist. On my special occasions she makes me look like a beauty queen, the compliments just keep coming. As far as the Earth Nectar products, they too are fabulous. I have used and still use the Hair Milk, The Detangler, and the Hair perfume (that’s what I call it) The Hair Milk is very light and it makes may hair shine and the aroma is very pleasant. The Detanlger is my life saver, before I used it it took me hours(sometimes days) to comb out my hair after I take the twist out, now it’s takes less than 2 hours, to take the two-strand twist out, comb out the knots, wash & blow dry my hair. The hair perfume is very nice as well it smells wonderful and I also receive comments like, “man you smell good” and I tell them it’s my hair.
I have been twisting my hair for about a year now, and now that my schedule has changed I’m ready for some new fun and exciting hair styles Tamika has an in store for me.
Sincerely,
A very satisfied customer

Allow me to tell you about my hair experiences. I have worn my hair naturally for approximately 3 years. Prior to this time, I wore my hair in a relaxed style, which was anything but. Every 4 weeks, I needed a “touch up” because I would sweat so much that the chemicals never lasted any longer than that (and believe me, I have tried many versions of relaxers). Despite the best efforts and skills of my hairdressers, I never really had a “great hair day” after the first week of a “fresh perm” and only received compliments immediately after my hair had been relaxed. One day, during the first year into my natural hairstyle, with extensions of course, a co-worker who was a client of Natural Resources recommended that I get an appointment there, because my hair looked dry! I was disappointed in the comment, but took the information and proceeded to make the necessary arrangements to get an appointment ASAP. Since becoming a client and using the products, including the Pure Shampoo, Honey Conditioner, Monoi Hair Milk, Mint Leaves Scalp Oil and Conditioning Mist Spray, (which all smell great), I have received compliments nearly every day, and I am not exaggerating. Strangers and friends alike like the fact that my hair is well- moisturized. I love the fact that the products can be “scented” to my desire. People say I smell as if I have been at the beach, and/or they simply ask, what I am wearing. Since I wear musk oils, which I get from the boutique as well, I have to ask what scent they smell. If they say coconut, I know it is my hair, and I say, my natural hair care specialist makes her own products, give them the address (from memory). Strangers stop me and ask me if they can feel my hair; and often yell compliments about a particular style they like out of the car window. My friends and church members are more partial to the ‘fro, while I personally prefer a curly look and the “twist out.” In addition to the products listed above, I also love the Shea Butter created by Natural Resources. A year ago, I had to go to the dermatologist to treat eczema on the back of my neck. The medication I was prescribed took the skin off my neck and made it pink. Tameka noticed this while doing my hair and recommended the Shea Butter. My neck healed, and it has been more than a year since I have any more serious difficulties. When I feel as though I am going to have a “flare up,” I apply the Shea Butter and it calms my skin instantly. My friend uses it on her toddler who has eczema on his rear end. In my opinion, there are only 3 types of people in the world: Those who want to be clients (I meet them all the time); those who were clients (and regret relaxing their hair and leaving the salon); and those who are clients (they love having their hair done at the boutique and drive from wherever they are just to check on the available accessories for both hair and body). I am very happy to be a member of the last group! I am a one woman advertisement! Thanks Natural Resources for all that you do. The boutique and salon are a peaceful sanctuary and it is always an enjoyable visit! Can’t wait for my next appointment- Shanon-Client since 2005
Thank you for all that you have done for me.

I have always believed the natural hair texture of black folk’s hair was special and beautiful. In 1969 I found it unnecessary to continue to apply chemicals to my hair simply to change what God had made, so I stopped. However, throughout many years I discovered there were very few places that made available a diversity of natural hairstyles, besides a good cut. For years I wore an Afro, short, long, sometimes tinted, but still natural. When I moved to Houston from Atlanta I tried cornrows, but it wasn’t exactly a style I felt comfortable with so I went back to an Afro. After changing several times I found a barber who could cut my natural hair and still make me feel like a female and not just give me a male cut on a female head. About 4 years ago straw twist and 2 strand twist became a popular hair style for black folks, so I asked my barber to try it on me. We started with straw twist; unfortunately he used a gel to keep it in place which I didn’t like. A friend of mind began wearing her hair in two strand twist. Her hair styles always look fresh, neat and feminine while still remaining soft and natural. She referred me to Natural resources. When I went for my first appointment I was so impressed that Tamika and Monique were both so young yet very professional and the shop was well organized and cute. Tamika gave me a consultation, explained thoroughly her process and what she could do for my hair. We decided on two strand twist with extensions since my hair was short and I wanted some length. At my first styling appointment, I was amazed at the clients that came in and out of the shop. They all we so pleased with the services they received and were always vying for appointments. After styling my hair Tamika recommended her line of natural hair products, Earth’s Nectar to maintain my style. I fell in love with her products. They were all made by Tamika and Monique and were chemical free. The scalp oils are wonderful and keep my scalp moisturized without feeling oily or heavy. My favorite product is the Hair Milk. I have had many people, blacks and others, stop me in various public places and ask me what that wonderful smell was I had on my hair and actually touch my hair because it looked so healthy and smelled so good. They were always amazed at how soft my hair is and wanted to know who my stylist is and where could they get some of what I had in my hair or an appointment so that they could have their hair done also. I have stopped buying hair products from anyone other than from Earth’s nectar all together. My hair has remained healthy, and strong due to the care received from Tamika and Monique. The hair care products continue to keep my hair healthy, looking fresh and well kept between appointments. I have gone from twist, to starting locs. At first I was a little afraid, but the transition has been made easy by Monique and Monique is a master at what she does. I continue to use the Earth’s nectar products on my locs and receive many compliments on how well my hair looks. As a middle aged black woman it is such a compliment to me and the owners of Natural Resources when folks say, “I want my hair to look like yours. I am tired of wigs and perms.” I smile and say, “Hair done by the stylist at Natural Resources and the hair products are all natural.” I am proud that the business has continued to thrive and grow. The salon is trendy, yet professional. The products are miraculous and the personal is wonderful. I can not think of a better testimony to the beauty of blackness

My experience at Natural Resources Salon/Earth's Nectar has been heaven sent. The service is always professional and timely, yet it always feels like home. I wear double strand twist. There is not a day that goes by without someone telling me they like the way my hair looks, asking me if it is my natural hair and where do I go for my twist. My hair is natural, curly and easily tangled. I could not find a product that would detangle my hair. For years I searched high and low and behold I found Natural Resources Salon/Earth's Nectar. The products, made by the salon, were the answer and end to my quest. The MONOI Hair Milk (lightweight moisturizer), the Sculpting Butter and the Hair Conditioning Cream not only moisturize, sculpt and condition, they also YES, DETANGLE!!!! I highly recommend the Salon services and the Earth's Nectar products. You will be blown away with all the multi-purpose uses of the products. Stop, look no further, you have found Nirvana!

A SATISFIED CUSTOMER - GLADYS DAVIS
Natural Resources is truly a one of a kind natural hair salon. Hair care, skin care and total beauty care what more can a woman ask for in a salon? I asked and then the ladies add WildFlower human hair in all textures. I had to sample this unique quality of hair and I give it the Natural seal of approval. When wearing the hair I received constant compliments and alot of disbelief because I was wearing curly hair with head of natural kinks underneath. My hair was hidden so well that everyone wanted to feel my hair to believe I was Natural and wearing a curly textured weave. Tamika really put her all into my extension hair style and the results were "Fantabulous"!! Ladies of Natural Resources keep up the good work!

My mother is ninety years old. She has had two heart attacks and three strokes. The last stroke left her unable to walk, feed herself and take care of herself. She is currently in a facility that assist me with her care. Her hair has always been natural. My mother's hair became matted. I was frustrated, angry, and disappointed that no one knew how to care for natural hair at the facility. I purchased Earth Nectar's products and went to work on MuDear's hair. The mint shampoo and the conditioning cream stimulated the scalp and soften her hair. I was amazed at how the detangling cream allowed me to comb my mother's hair with very little hair loss - in spite of the matted condition. I was sure I was going to loose a considerable amount of hair due to the matting. The cream allowed me to comb straight through MuDear's hair with little to no lost. My mother even sang as I combed her hair. (No joke!) I was so pleased and grateful that I almost cried. I even use Earth Nectar's products on her skin and mine to keep from drying out. My entire family uses Earth Nectar. We use the Shea Butter for our face, hand and body. We have the scents customized to our preference. For example, White Peach is my favorite scent.
Thank You Earth Nectar,

Natural Resources, I just wanted to give the ladies a quick notation so that you could know how your services and products are making remarkable changes in so many women lives especially my own. People are constantly approaching me to ask me the question, “Is that your real hair?” Often times when I respond with a yes, they just look in disbelief. It is an awesome feeling that my hair is so healthy and beautiful that people can not even believe that it’s my own. The Monoi Oil gives my hair so much luster and softness; and the fact that all the products are natural, makes it all the more better. I would not and I do not trust my hair to anything other products besides Earth’s Nectar. I have learned that when I do what is best for my hair in turn it does what is best for me! Keep working so diligently for all whom desire is to use products that are good and healthy in or temples and for our temples, we appreciate it.
Sincerely,

I have been a client at Natural Resources for approximately 2 years. I have always found the salon and Tamika to be very professional and provide a positive and relaxing environment in which to have my hair done. I found the salon through a referral from a stranger that had a beautiful natural hairstyle. Luckily for me, Tamika was accepting new clients at that time. I like that fact that she required a consultation prior to any work being done on my hair, which let me know that truly cared about the hair needs of her clients. Although I was shock that it was so difficult to get my first appointment, I now understand that Tamika has a loyal customer base in which very few openings come up. Here expertise and hair products have done wonders for the growth of my hair. I look forward to our on-going professional relationship and to keeping my natural hair looking good, growing and evolving.

I've always wanted to wear my hair natural but didn't want to go through the awful transition of letting my perm grow out. After consulting with Tamika and making the first appointment, I was finally confident in someone that would help me achieve the look I wanted with ease. The day I had my hair twisted, my girlfriend called to ask me how did I look and I told her like a Goddess. When she saw me, she said you are right. Tamika has such creativity with styling, I'm constantly asked who does my hair. The Hair Milk is my daily ritual on my twist and it never fails when I greet someone with a hug, they always say, your hair sure smells good, what do you put on it. Wearing my hair natural has given me the freedom that I've always wanted and the proof that natural hair is truly beautiful. It’s been 4 years since I made the transition to natural hair and I couldn’t have made it through my journey without Natural Resources and Earth’s Nectar products. My hair has grown stronger and longer, and it always has a beautiful shine and smell – all thanks to the quality and care that goes into Earth’s Nectar hair products. Tamika, God has definitely given you a talent! Thank you for sharing it with the rest of the world.
Your customer for life,
- Natalie Lawrence
I’ve been a customer of Natural Resources for about 6 years now. I remember when Tamika was twisting my hair in her apartment and using one of her Earths Nectar products before the label was even named. I believe it was the orange honey lock preparation. Even then the smell of it made me want to taste it. I actually did, wasn’t bad either. I watched Tamika research, test sample and perfect her product over the years. She would educate me about the product, from where she struggled to find the most organic and pure ingredients and what each ingredient was used for. I was and still am excited to have personally witnessed the evolution of this natural line of health care product for the natural haired woman and man. I am also happy with my hair, having gone totally natural, after Tamika cut the remainder of my chemically damaged hair off in 2002, and learning how to manage it on my own. I am very thankful for all the support Natural Resources and Tamika has given me over the years and pray that this business will continue to thrive and assist women and men throughout every community with the support they need in maintaining healthy and happy nappy hair. God bless.

NATURAL RESOURCES – A HAIR SAVER FOR ME INDEED!
I started out with healthy beautiful hair when I was a little girl (no chemicals), then incorporated chemicals when I was in junior high – first a relaxer then the Jerry Curl where my hair also appeared to be a lot healthier with the Jerry Curl because of the moisture.
Well after the curl went out of style – of course I went back to the relaxer and it was downhill from there. I’m sure emotional pressures and stress caused my hair to break as well, but for the most part it was over processed from the relaxers for so many years.
A good friend of mine decided to go natural (but her hair wasn’t as damaged as mine) so I didn’t think going natural would actually help me. I thought about it and prayed about it and decided to try leaving the chemicals alone – WHAT COULD IT HURT – RIGHT now that my head was literally bald in the crown area and appeared to be getting worse. So I was introduced to Tamika and Monique at Natural Resources. When I went for my consultation with Tamika, she immediately told me that there was hope for me if I was really serious about leaving the chemicals BEHIND.
Tamika saw how damaged my hair was, but gave me hope because of previous testimonies. After the 1st 6-9 months, I couldn’t believe my hair had actually grown back in the top and was becoming healthy once again. This wonderful drastic life altering change has not only made me one of Natural Resources’ PR (public relations) spokeswomen, but has also given me courage and boldness to appreciate and accept my African American hair texture and styles.
It’s going on 3 years now since I’ve been natural and my hair is just as healthy now as when I was a little girl. Tamika and Monique believes in nurturing and caring for the hair as well as educating individuals on what and what NOT to do when it comes to African American hair. Thanks Natural Resources – YOU SAVED MY HAIR INDEED!!!!!
Healthy Hair Again,

I tried 7 years ago to go "NATURAL"(under the direction of another stylist) that experience lasted all of 3 weeks. I could not get pass the beginning BABY STAGE so back to the PERM i went. A few years passed then i was referred to Tamika @ Natural Resources. Scared but open minded i scheduled the consultation and it was Wonderful. Tamika throughly explained the Natural Hair Process; how to get pass the BABY stage and the different hair styles for those with Natural Hair. I left the consultation feeling relieved she gave me hope and my fears of having Natural hair were gone. Thanks to Tamika's knowledge of and passion for Natural Hair and the products made by her and her partner I am proud to say I have been Natural for 3 years

For the longest time I was trying to find out who I was. Still being very young (only 16 today) this was a hard thing to do. The "issue" of hair was just that for me: an issue. My mother, who had never been a hair person herself and now rocks a very low fade, took me from stylist to stylist trying to find what was a healthy way to care for my hair. Every place we went we were encouraged to straighten it and finally my mom caved and at six years old I got a perm. Before then I had already been on that road as we were already getting it pressed on a regular basis. Family members and friends encouraged my mom that she had done the right thing with my hair by relaxing it so I continued to get perms throughout elementary school. By the time I reached the fifth grade, my hair was badly broken and my mom decided that it was time to "start over". We went to the barber and cut all of my hair off leaving me with only a short fro. Still we would put curl activator on it searching for a texture that was more acceptable. After a few years my hair was shoulder length. My mom's friend suggested that we go to a salon that focused on hair health. At the salon we were told that through the natural oils created by the owner and practice of a healthy diet my hair would be to my mid-back in two years despite the fact that they would continue to perm it. What they did not say was that my hair would not grow as long as it was being permed and after a year and a half of lost hopes and lost money my hair was shorter than when I first began. I stopped going to that salon and my mother again began to search for the answer to my hair "problem". During the search, I received positive encouragement from some of my natural friends on the effects of perms and why they went natural or had never gotten perms. It became obvious to me that the perm was a sign of oppression and a weapon of chemical warfare on the Black race. I decided that I would no longer get perms and I would start my journey to becoming natural. Still I was in a world of processed beauties and was afraid of what my high school friends might think. To keep the facade going, I began to get my hair pressed to restore the comfort that perms gave me. One day after washing and drying my hair so that I could go and get my usual press, I looked in the mirror and noticed for the first time how beautiful my Afro looked. I observed that it would look even more beautiful without the straight relaxed pieces on the ends. I grabbed the scissors and began to trim my hair, no, correction: the hair that I used to think was mine. When it was finished I knew that I was definitely done straightening my hair. I called my moms friend who was waiting with her pressing comb to make me beautiful and told her that I already was. Soon after, my mom found Natural Resources and Tamika and Monique helped me even more with care of my natural hair. Now I realize that the only reason that my hair was ever a problem was because I made it one. I was constantly searching for beauty but in reality the beauty I was looking for was not my own. I finally saw that to truly be happy with myself I would have to be myself and LOVE myself. This was hard to do despite the many times that I claimed I did love myself. America plasters its image of beauty all over billboards, televisions and magazines and it has straight hair and white skin. Adding to the stress of it all is the fact that my people have adopted that image themselves and constantly try to obtain it not realizing that to meet that standard would be a back step. Black people are the source of all people and of all beauty and until we realized that, we will never be happy and we will always be searching. We as a people need to abandon not the essence of our beauty, but the burden of America's view of that beauty. I now know that my gorgeous is on a whole different level of gorgeous than the rest of America's gorgeous. Being natural is who I am, because it is who God made me and when he finished with me way back in Eden, he said, "It is good." So who am I to say that it's not?
